Mark Porter is a technology executive who has served as CTO of MongoDB and dbt Labs, and as General Manager at Amazon Web Services, where he led Amazon RDS and Aurora. A board director, Caltech engineering graduate, and lifelong programmer, he has been building and leading technology organizations for over three decades.

Mark Porter is a technology executive with deep roots in databases, infrastructure, and developer tools. He most recently served as CTO of dbt Labs and, before that, CTO of MongoDB, where he shaped the long-term technology vision for one of the world’s leading database companies. At Amazon Web Services, he led Amazon RDS, Aurora, and the Database Migration Service. Earlier in his career, Mark held executive roles at Grab (Southeast Asia’s super app), NewsCorp, and Oracle, and was an early member of the Oracle Database Kernel team. He has served on the boards of GitLab, MongoDB, and Super Technologies. Mark holds a BS in Engineering and Applied Science from Caltech and has been coding professionally since the age of 16.

Mark Porter has held a number of technical executive roles across his career. He most recently served as Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of dbt Labs, helping companies understand and process their data better. Prior to dbt Labs, he was CTO of MongoDB, responsible for crafting the long-term technology roadmap and vision for the company. Before that, Mark was CTO of Core Technology and Transport at Grab, Southeast Asia’s super app, which provides ride-hailing, food and grocery delivery, mobile payments, and financial services to millions of people across the region.
Earlier, Mark spent five-plus years as a General Manager at Amazon Web Services, where he led the Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon Aurora, RDS for PostgreSQL, the AWS Database Migration Service, and the AWS Schema Conversion Tool. He has also held roles including CTO of the Amplify division of NewsCorp and Vice President of Engineering at Oracle Corporation, worked at NASA/JPL, and was an early member of the Oracle Database Kernel group.
Mark currently serves on the Board of Directors of Super Technologies and has previously served on the boards of GitLab and MongoDB. He holds a BS in Engineering and Applied Science from Caltech, attended Harvard Business School’s Disruptive Innovation course, and has been coding professionally since the age of 16.
