On October 21, 2026, I gave this talk in Healdsburg: what AI is really doing to software and the companies that build it.

It starts with the history, from 1890 punch-card census tabulation through AI’s two winters, the machine learning that quietly ran your business in the 1990s, and the Transformer paper that kicked off today’s wave. Then come my opinions: “TokenMaxxing” was and is a bad idea, many datacenter deals are at risk, local compute may start dominating the world, and coding is only ~16% of the job, so aim AI at the other 84%. It wraps up with how to be the AI GOAT in your conversations and what to do next Monday, whether you run a company, invest, or build.
